Obama’s speech in Germany has certainly worked the Democrats into a lather. Here is a small excerpt, annotated by me to include what he didn’t actually vocalize, but meant to say:
This is the moment when we must renew our resolve to rout the terrorists who threaten our security in Afghanistan [but not in Iraq], and the traffickers who sell drugs on your streets. No one welcomes war. I recognize the enormous difficulties in Afghanistan [and call them failures in Iraq]. But my country and yours have a stake in seeing that NATO’s first mission beyond Europe’s borders is a success [though Iraq, on the other hand, is a failure]. For the people of Afghanistan [but not the people of Iraq], and for our shared security [not including the Iraqis’], the work must be done [except in Iraq, which we should just abandon]. America cannot do this alone [but Iraq can]. The Afghan people [but not the Iraqis] need our troops and your troops; our support and your support to defeat the Taliban and al Qaeda, to develop their economy, and to help them rebuild their nation [but Iraq doesn’t, since it’s a failure]. We have too much at stake to turn back now [except in Iraq].
Politicians make me want to vomit.
