So I’m setting a Vista system up for someone. It has a TV tuner card, and everything appears to be working, hardware (including sound card) is all detected, and I finished setting up the channels. Then I go to actually watch something, and I get this error:

Yes, that’s right. VIDEO cannot be displayed because there was a problem with the AUDIO. That makes sense, right?
Apparently Vista disables the audio completely when it doesn’t detect speakers. I didn’t plug any speakers in because I didn’t care about hearing anything, I was just checking to see if picked up the video feed. After plugging in some speakers, I still can’t get it to work until I close Media Center and open it back up, and it works fine. If I unplug the speakers, everything dies until I plug them back in.
Could you tell me again why I should upgrade to Vista? I’m afraid I’ve forgotten. Maybe I should read the 100 reasons again.
